Last week educators with Beeville ISD participated in training to help strengthen some of the processes the district uses for Response to Intervention (RTI).

RTI is a process that utilizes assessment and academic or behavioral interventions within a prevention system to increase student achievement and to reduce behavior problems. With RTI, schools identify students at risk of having academic or behavioral difficulties, monitor student progress, provide interventions for students to increase their success in school. Some of the tools that Beeville ISD uses to identify students who are not working at the level of their peers are STAR Early Literacy, Reading, and Math assessments. These products are from Renaissance Learning. In addition, the district also uses Renaissance Learning’s Accelerated Math, Accelerated Reader, Math Facts in a Flash, and Successful Reading as part of the system of academic interventions.

Last week, the district continued its training plan for RTI by providing training to district personnel on STAR Early Literacy, Reading, and Math assessments and Accelerated Math. Margaret Colas from Renaissance Learning provided the three days of on-site training.

Comments from teachers and others in the training showed they found this training valuable and are looking forward to using the products with more success and strategies in the future. They are also looking forward to the continued training provided throughout the rest of this school year and next on these and other topics related to RTI.
