Beeville Independent School District will celebrate Texas Public Schools Week beginning March 8-12. This year’s theme for the weeklong observance is “Building Leaders: Today they learn. Tomorrow they lead.”

Public schools across the state are committed to laying the foundation for a solid education,” said Dr. Nancy Jones, assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction. To get a firsthand look at how our students are being inspired to become future leaders, parents and community members are invited to Celebrate Texas Public Schools by participating in open house events and our Education Celebration, Monday, March 8.

On Monday evening from 6:30 to 8 o’clock, BISD will showcase a variety of school and community programs in the annual Education Celebration. Beeville school campuses as well as various not for profit participants will set up their displays and booths in Veterans Memorial Stadium.

Two stages will be set up for the entertainment during the evening. Main stage will feature R.A. Hall Choir, led by Linda Switzer, at 6:50 p.m.; TJES PE class, led by Karen Harvey, at 7:15 p.m.; and A.C. Jones Mariachi, led by Jaime Vela at 7:35 p.m. On Stage 2, visitors’ side of football stadium, will be featured FMC Choir, led by Cindy Hensley, at 6:45 p.m.; Moreno Middle School Choir, led by Carolyn Heizer, at 7:15 p.m.; and A.C. Jones Choir, led by Ralph Howell, at 7:35 p.m.

In addition to booths by the various campuses and school programs, there also will be representatives from several universities and colleges; March of Dimes, Relay for Life, Beeville Housing Authority, Coastal Plains MHMR, OATH (Open Arms, Thankful Hearts), Adult Literacy, Bee County Tax Office, Amerigroup, Community Action CHIPS, Driscoll Children’s Health Plan, Angel Bright Home Health, Christus Spohn Hospital, TDCJ-Region IV, U.S. Navy, Texas Department of State Health, Beeville Public Library, BCAA Headstart, Early College High School and many others.

Food items will be on sale by various groups raising money for their organizations. Some of the treats on the menu include hamburgers, nachos, Frito pie, sausage wraps, candy apples, baked goods, snow cones and drinks.

“Texas Public Schools Week is a yearly celebration in which everyone – students, families and the community can participate together,” Jones said recently. “This celebration gives all of us an opportunity to highlight our students and their wonderful achievements. We hope parents and everyone interested will come visit our schools next week to see our students.”

For information on next week’s campus activities, contact your child’s school or BISD website,

Jones said, “We especially encourage the community to join us at the Education Celebration Monday night. If inclement weather we will have Education Celebration Tuesday, March 9. For the safety of our children and parents dogs, skateboarding, bicycles and footballs will not be allowed during Education Celebration.”
