“The students were very excited. They couldn’t wait to try theirs on,” said Jaime Vela, band director.
He went on to say, “actually it is kind of sad really. After we take our yearly pictures we have to pack them back up in their boxes and put them in storage for the summer. While the band hall is being renovated this summer, everything, including our new uniforms, will need to packed up and stored till August.”
“Every trophy, plaque, and picture will be put away. These plaques and pictures are the bands history dating back to Thomas Jefferson High School in the 1940’s. The Demon Band? Yes that was our band’s name in the 1950’s,” Vela said.
“Jack Felts and Bill Cason were head directors in the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. We have over sixty years of accomplishments, awards, and thank you’s to our band. Every picture is a memory and a stepping stone to where our past band members where. It really makes you think how much of an honor it is to be directing the band. It is a humbling experience.”
Every award and picture will be put back in its rightful place when the renovations are completed in late July.
