With memories of “the way we were” and an outstanding display of photographs made by a class member, the A.C. Jones High School class of 1953 observed the 75th birthday of most of the class members.

Beginning with a “Dutch Treat” dinner at Shorty’s Lodge Restaurant on Friday, April 16, the classmates greeted each other.

On Saturday, April 17, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. the public as well as the class members and guests delighted in a collection of photos displayed at 119 N. Washington St., the Brenda Hughes’ remodeled building. The well-presented and appropriately titled pictures were taken by Beeville native Elbert (Buz) Brown.

Beginning in his high school years, Buz was a photographer for the A.C. Jones annual. His interest continued during his college and military careers. After losing a major portion of his eyesight in the mid-1990s, he was inspired to take advantage of his remaining time and ability to see. Sharing this outstanding display gave classmates a chance to reconnect with each other and appreciate the skill of the friend and school chum. His titles for each photo reflect his joy and appreciation of this world around him.

Later that evening the reunion continued at The Cistern Restaurant and Patio Grill. Memories of some shared adventures were expressed by class member Betty Elder, with additions from those present. A decorated birthday cake in the spirit of the ’50s provided the dessert on a weekend of looking back and appreciating the now.
