The Beeville ISD board of trustees met earlier today (Wednesday) to consider approval of a contract to employ Dr. Linda Sue Thomas as superintendent of schools.

Dr. Thomas was the lone candidate unanimously selected by the board to replace Dr. John Hardwick as superintendent.

A complete list of past superintendents was not available, but no one could recall a woman superintendent being hired in this district.

Thomas, an educator with 35 years of experience, has worked as superintendent of Aransas Pass ISD since 2007.

She has worked in that district since 1996 when she started as principal of A.C. Blunt Middle School.

She received her doctorate in educational leadership from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi and Texas A&M University-Kingsville in 1995. She received her master of arts in curriculum and reading from Texas A&M in Kingsville in 1981 and a bachelor of arts in English and French from that same school in 1972.

The results of today’s board meeting were not available at press time.
