Orientation dates posted for GED/pre-GED, ESL classes

Those interested in Adult Basic Education classes, including English as a second language (ESL) and GED/pre-GED, are required to attend orientation at Coastal Bend College Lott-Canada Facility, located at 900 W. Corpus Christi St. (Hwy. 59 West) in Beeville.

The purpose of the ABE program is to provide instruction in adult basic education, adult secondary education and education in English proficiency. Adult basic education provides instruction in reading, writing, math and life skills. There are five areas of the GED. Students are give instruction in each area to help them successfully complete the GED exam and earn a high school equivalency diploma.

In Beeville, day classes in ESL, pre-GED and GED are held Mondays through Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. to noon. Night classes for pre-GED and GED are held Mondays through Thursdays, 6:30-9 p.m.

- July 27-29, 8:30 a.m. to noon.

- July 27-28, 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

- Oct. 26-28, 8:30 a.m. to noon.

- Oct. 26-27, 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

- Jan. 25-27, 8:30 a.m. to noon

- Jan. 25-26, 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

- April 26-28, 8:30 a.m. to noon.

Classes are also held at sites in George West, Sinton, Mathis, Taft and Ingleside. Registration and class times vary by location. Instructions follow by site:

George West: GED/pre-GED classes are held Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, 8:30 a.m. to noon at the Buck West House, 400 N. Nueces St. For additional information, call Dr. Jesse DeRusse at 362-6095.

Mathis: GED/pre-GED classes are held Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, 6:30-9 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of Mathis, 420 S. Duval St. Contact Denise Neuman at 362-6095 for more information.

Sinton: GED/pre-GED are held from noon to 4 p.m., Mondays through Thursdays at the Sinton Workforce Office, 1113 E. Sinton St., Suite D. Call Rosemary Benavidez for registration dates and other information at 364-3284.

Taft: ESL and GED/pre-GED classes are held on Wednesday and Thursday nights, 6-8:30 p.m. Classes are held in Taft Independent School District classrooms. Call Lolo Hernandez at (361) 528-2636, ext. 2235, for additional details.
