Fiesta offers schedule of events

Fiesta Diez y Seis de Septiembre week will begin with the Cultural Queens Pageant at 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 4, at the Gertrude Jones Auditorium at Coastal Bend College.

On Thursday, Sept. 9, a mariachi concert, featuring Mariachi Mexicanismo from Corpus Christi, will be performing free to the public at the Depot Pavilion in downtown Beeville. The performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. Following the concert will be a show of “Mexican movies.” Bring your own lawn chairs.

Friday, Sept. 10, there will be a “Conjunto Shootout” featuring local talent at the downtown Depot. This free event will begin at 7:30 p.m. and will feature regional conjuntos.

At the John C. Beasley Municipal Golf Course, the Sundowner/Nite Golf Tournament promises to be an exciting event. Anyone interested in playing in the tournament can contact Sam Workman at the golf shop at 362-7618.

The 26th annual Fiesta Parade on Saturday, Sept. 11, will kick off at 10:30 a.m. This year’s parade marshals will feature Balde Loya and Rosie Maldonado for their contribution to mariachi music.

At 9 a.m., the 40 and Older Fast Pitch Tournament will begin at the Veterans Memorial Park.

At 2 p.m., the Fiesta Disc Golf Tournament will be held at the Veterans Memorial Park disc golf course.

The gates will open at 11 a.m. at the Bee County Expo Center. Several events will be held there throughout the day, including cake walks, kids’ games, tamale eating contest, etc.

This year’s headliner band is Jaime y Los Chamacos. Other bands performing throughout the day will be Junior and the Majestics, Los Tremendos and Grupo Inizzo.

All events will be free to the public.
