From the Brewer Family singers to marimba player Ismael Garza, the Beeville Concert Association’s opening concert for the 2010-2011 season features some of Beeville’s most talented musicians, both young and experienced, with selections which will appeal to a wide variety of musical tastes.

The concert is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 26, at 3 p.m. at the Coastal Bend College Gertrude R. Jones Performing Arts Auditorium.

Other performers for the first concert include vocal soloists Claire Lucke, Sally Friedlander, Nancy Jones, John Schulz and Donna Davis; trumpeter Linda Switzer; cellist Sarah Milnarich; euphonium soloist Shannon Sánchez; violinist Lindsey Ray and guitarists A.J. Arredondo and Marcus Montez-Puga.

BCA President Kay Past encourages parents to bring children to this performance and to the others scheduled for the 2009-2010 season. “There is considerable evidence that music benefits children’s development and gives them an advantage over those who are not exposed to a variety of music from a young age.”

The rest of the BCA’s season includes the following:

Ballet Folklórico Ozomatili of Mission, accompanied by Mariachi Los Lobos, Sunday, Oct. 10, sponsored by H-E-B;

Flamenco guitarist Ronald Radford, Oct. 31, funded by the Mid-America Arts Alliance with generous underwriting by the National Endowment for the Arts, the Texas Commission on the Arts, and foundations, corporations and individuals throughout Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Texas;

Sunday, Nov. 14, Hawaiian Kona Isle dancers;

San Antonio Symphony Orchestra, A.C. Jones High School Auditorium, Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2011, at 7:30 p.m., funded by the Joe Barnhart Foundation and Coastal Bend College;

Su-Ryeon Ji, organist, St. Philip’s Episcopal Church, Friday, Feb. 4, at 7:30 p.m.;

Tin Roof Tango, Sunday, March 6;

The Chocolate Divas, soloist Hope Shiver and her sister, pianist Kay Pace, Sunday, March 27, designated the Cathryn Berninger memorial concert.

Season memberships are $40 for adults, with all children through high school age admitted free. CBC students are admitted with their student ID’s through CBC sponsorship. Single tickets at the door are $10 for adults.

“Season memberships for the BCA are probably one of the best musical bargains anywhere,” Past said. “We can continue to offer them at affordable prices because of the Joe Barnhart Foundation, Coastal Bend College, H-E-B and our local sponsors and friends of the arts. Tickets for any one of these programs would cost $15 or much more at performances in large cities.”

Season tickets may be purchased at the Sept. 26 concert, from a BCA volunteer or by mailing a check to the BCA, P.O Box 1511, Beeville, 78104. Members who purchase their tickets before the first concert may pick them up at the door on Sept. 26.

Individuals or businesses who would like to make a tax-deductible contribution to the BCA may have their names listed on each concert program in the following categories:

Friend of the Arts, $50 (receives one complimentary season ticket);

Patron of the Arts, $100 (receives two complimentary season tickets);

Benefactor of the Arts, $150 (receives three complimentary season tickets);

Corporate Sponsor of the Arts, $250 or more (receives five complimentary season tickets.)

“Local contributions will enable the BCA to pay for this year’s concerts and to plan another exciting concert season for 2011-2012,” Past explained.
