Dagmar Gruy Cole, 88, passed away September 25, 2010, in San Antonio, Texas. She was born June 14, 1922, in Laredo, Texas, to Joseph Gruy, Sr. and Lucile Kohler Gruy. Dagmar spent her early years primarily in Hebbronville and Beeville, Texas. She lived with relatives and attended high school in Vienna, returning to the United States following Hitler's invasion of Austria. She graduated from Incarnate Word High School in San Antonio and attended the University of Texas at Austin. Following her graduation, she returned to Hebbronville and assisted her father in the management of the historic Viggo Hotel. In 1949, Dagmar married James Graydon Cole, Jr. in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and soon after moved to Hebbronville where they estblished their permanent home. Following James Cole's death in 1965, Dagmar remained a lifelong resident.

She is survived by her daughter, Karen Cole; and one grandson, James McBride, of New York City, New York; two brothers, Viggo Kohler Gruy and his wife, Patricia, of Beeville, Tx. and Joseph Gruy, Jr. and his wife, Denise, of Spicewood, Tx; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation was on Tuesday, September 28, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm with a prayer service at 7 pm at Funeraria Del Angel Howard-Williams, 401 Texas St., in Hebbronville, Texas. Funeral Services were held at St. James Episcopal Church in Hebbronville on Wednesday, September 29, at 11:00 am. Burial followed at Greenhill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Stephen Kohler Gruy, Stephen Kohler Gruy, Jr., Renato Perez, Marion E. Williams Jr., James Michael McBride and Bill Barfield.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a memorial to Metropolitan Opera, Lincoln Center, New York , New York 10023, or a charity of your choosing.
