Lila Jacquelyn Nicholson (Jacky) Buck, 85, died Friday, Sept. 24, 2010 in Katy.

Mrs. Buck was born on Nov. 23, 1925, in Mexia to Frank and Ella Jo Nicholson. She attended college in Kingsville and moved to Houston, where she worked for many years as a geological draftsman for Exxon and other companies. She moved to Bandera in the1980s to be closer to her sister, Mary and brother-in-law, Roy. She volunteered at Helping Hands, EMS and the Senior Center where she served on the board of directors. After moving from Bandera to Katy in 2007, she was honored for her years of volunteer service and elected Queen of Bandera. She loved to dance and was an accomplished painter.

She was preceded in death by her twin sister, Mary Nicholson Carpenter, and her brother, Frank Nicholson.

Survivors include a daughter, Amanda Walker; a son, Clayton (Sue) Buck; and grandchildren, John and Erin.

A graveside service was held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Glenwood Cemetery in Beeville.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Diabetes Association or Gideon's International.

Arrangements were under the direction of Memorial Oaks Funeral Home & Cemetery, Houston.
