Mr. Dirks was born to Lee W. and Barbara May (Rapp) Dirks on Dec. 27, 1929, in Beeville. He was a graduate of Southwest Texas State Teachers College, served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. He married Billie June Martin on Oct. 11, 1952, in Fort Smith, Ark. He was a member of St. Philip’s Episcopal Church and had a private accounting firm. He was president of First National Bank in George West, was part of the group who purchased and ran the Charlotte State Bank and also worked for the Appraisal District from 1996 until his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Billie Dirks; three brothers, John Marion, James Leland and Donald Frank Dirks; and a sister, Rachel Jean Dirks.
Survivors include his daughter, Marcia Dirks of Wimberley; a son, Paul (Kathryn) Dirks of Corpus Christi; a brother, R.W. “Bill” Dirks of Tuleta; and five grandchildren, Lynlie Marie Wallace, Abigail Wallace , Jackson Wallace III, Kristen Acock and Grace Kathryn Dirks.
Visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday at Galloway & Sons Chapel.
The funeral service was conducted at 10 o’clock Monday morning at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church. Interment followed in Glenwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jackson Wallace III, Harvey Hardwick, Dick McGee, Bobby Jacob, Mark Bledsoe, Lee Dirks, Jimmy Strause and Donnie Watkins.
Honorary pallbearers were Bill Hardwick, Endercio Chapa, Henry Hardwick, Raul Garcia, Blackstone Dilworth, Leo Casas III and Richard Dirks Jr.
