Goliad Middle School 8th Grade graduation ceremony

On Thursday, May 31, at 7 p.m. Goliad Middle School 8th graders received their diplomas. Pledge Of Allegiance was said by Morgan Jeanneret, Student Council President. The Invocation was read by 3rd ranking Honors Student, Danielle Garza. The Welcome address was given by 2nd ranking honors student, Megan Janca Ushers & Usherettes were: Cameron Reyes – 98.60000, Michala Janssen – 100.10000, Rhett Davis – 97.70000, Megan Albrecht – 99.50000, Carly Shockley - 99.50000 Awards were presented to the top 10% of the 8th grade class receive recognition for their academic acomplishments. Selection is based on the students' cumulative academic averages in core subjects from the beginning of 6th grade through the 5th six weeks of the 8th grade. The core subjects include: Language Arts, Reading, Math, Science, and Social Studies.

The Citizenship award is a award is given to an 8th grade boy and girl. The recipient is determined by nomination and vote of the faculty. The criteria used to determine this award is:

1. Leadership

2. Attitude

3. Spirit of cooperation and helpfulness to both staff and students

4. Contributions made during the year that aids in development of a positive attitude toward school

5. Consistent exhibition of those traits traditionally accepted as being those of a good citizen.

This year's recipients - Colton Rifenburgh and April Alex.

The President's Award for Educational Excellence was established to encourage students to achieve high academic standards, and rewards students at the exit grade level of each school campus for their academic success. In order to qualify for this award, students must have a cumulative grade average of 90 or above through the 5th Six Weeks of their 8th grade year; AND they must also receive Commended Performance on the Math or Reading TAKS test, meaning that they answered at least 95% of the items correctly.
