She was born on July 7, 1926, to Peter C. and Marie (Rangnow) Dentler. Mildred was known to many as “The Cake Lady” as she specialized in making all types of cakes, pies, cinnamon rolls and coffee cakes from 1975 to 2008.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 34 years, Ernest H. Metting Sr., on May 6, 1980 and her grandson, Sammy J. (Joey) Brieden Jr. in May 2000 and her brother, Daniel H. Dentler in June 2011.
She is survived by daughter, Irene (Sammy) Brieden, Grace (Dwight) Binz, JoAnn (Maurice) Reitz and sons, Ernest (Carla) Metting and Jay (Laurie) Metting 16 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Funeral service was held on Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church with Pastor Tim Muehlbrad officiating. Internment will follow at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery under the direction of Finch Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were grandsons: Sohn Brieden, Shane Ressman, Dr. Daniel Binz, Ryan Reitz, Dr. Koby Reitz, Trey Metting, Dustin Metting, Summer Garza, Lacie Metting, Teresa Hiles, Thomas Diehl and Timothy Diehl.
Memorials may be made in Mildred’s honor to: St. Paul Lutheran Church of Yorktown, St. John Lutheran Church in Meyersville (where she was baptized and confirmed), VFW Ladies Auxiliary in their support of wounded warriors (in memory of her husband who also was a wounded WWII warrior) or Crown Hospice.
