On the first day, participants attended workshops on turf management, sports nutrition, golf rules and etiquette, and the basics of the golf swing.
On the second day, the teams competed in an 18-hole golf scramble, completed a scenario quiz, and took a written test. Kassidy Bego, Colton Knipling, and Ethan Whaley shot a 78 in the scramble and placed fourth overall. Amanda Cloessner, Kendra Webel, and Trista Welfel shot an 88 in the scramble.
Cloessner received an award for “Closest to the pin” on a par 3 hole. Cloessner, Welfel, and Whaley will be representing Goliad County at the Texas State Golf Challenge on Aug. 6 at the High Meadow Golf Club in Magnolia.
