Mr. Doerr was born July 1, 1939, in Beeville to Walter and Mary Agnes Sullivan Doerr. He married Bonnie Riggs Doerr on May 6, 1961, and worked for DuPont for 17 years, then became self-employed with Doerr’s Service Center and Exxon Station, offering auto repairs and later sales and service for golf carts and clubs until his forced retirement due to health issues. He underwent a lung transplant on Feb. 11, 2003, and acquired a new lease on life. He then opened P&D “Piddle and Diddle” Machine Works.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Doerr; daughters, Melissa (David) Koehne, Jonnett Coldwey; son, Russell (Karla) Doerr; sister, Jackie (Leonard) Marek; brother, Joe (Janell) Jackson; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his stepfather, A. T. Jackson.
The family received friends at the First Methodist Church in Goliad from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 15. A memorial service followed at 6:30 p.m. at the church on W. Pearl Street with Rev. Sharon Stewart officiating.
In lieu of floral donations, the family wishes donations be made to the Goliad Senior Citizens Building Fund in John’s name.
