GOLIAD — A record 517 riders participated in Saturday’s 21st Annual Missions Tour de Goliad.

It was the first time the event topped the 500 mark. According to Goliad County Chamber of Commerce administrative assistant Bonnee Riggs, over 100 riders registered just before the event.

“There was a lot of onsite registration that put us back a minute or two, but everybody was ready to head on out by 8:10,” Riggs said.

The ride featured courses winding of 10, 30, 50 and 85 miles winding through Goliad County. Riggs said there were some minor accidents during the ride, but none that required major medical attention.

“We didn’t need EMS,” Riggs said. “We had some scrapes and things, but those were cleaned up with first-aid kits and people carried on.”

Riggs said plans are already being made for the 22nd annual event in 2013.

“We’ve started planning the next one already,” Riggs said. “It will be held Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013.”

Riggs said a new route may be created for the 85-mile ride.

“They’re looking to revamping the route on the long ride, which could affect the other routes,” Riggs said. “There will definitely be some route changes.”
