Second-graders are off to a great start for the third six weeks. They have been working hard on reading strategies, fluency, basic math facts, coins, and much more.

In reading and language arts, students are reviewing r-controlled vowels and contractions. They are engaged in the poetry unit and have been creating their own poems, which include couplets and acrostic poems.

In math, students are able to carry out double-digit addition and subtraction problems. They are also able to identify, sort and count unlike groups of coins. They continue to work on basic math facts each day.

In social studies, they are learning about good citizenship in both the local community and the United States.

They are covering events including World War II and groups such as the WASPs. In science, students are learning how to classify resources including recyclable and non-recyclable materials. They can identify what is considered to be a man-made or natural resource as well.
