First-grade news
The first-graders have written their letters to Santa. They will appear in the Advance-Guard soon.
They have been identifying consonant blend words, diagraphs, and silent “e” words. They also are learning about the forces in magnets and historical figures in social studies. They are practicing addition and subtraction facts. They will go to the high school on Dec. 14 for the play “A Charlie Brown Christmas!”
Second-grade news
Second-graders are off to a great start for the third six weeks. They have been working hard on reading strategies, fluency, basic math facts, coins, and much more.
In reading and language arts, students are reviewing r-controlled vowels and contractions. They are engaged in the poetry unit and have been creating their own poems, which include couplets and acrostic poems.
In math, students are able to carry out double-digit addition and subtraction problems. They are also able to identify, sort and count unlike groups of coins. They continue to work on basic math facts each day.
In social studies, they are learning about good citizenship in both the local community and the United States.
They are covering events including World War II and groups such as the WASPs. In science, students are learning how to classify resources including recyclable and non-recyclable materials. They can identify what is considered to be a man-made or natural resource as well.
Second-graders enjoyed the presentation of author Susan Stevens Crummel and their trip to Presidio La Bahia.
Sixth-grade news
The following sixth-grade students excelled academically the first two six-week periods - Bivianna Hernandez, Jalyn Garcia, Scott Miller, Savannah Mozisek, Delfino (Cruz) Castro, Emma Albrecht, Lucas Proschko, Felicia Aguayo, Bailey Huber and Ryan De La Garza. They were selected and noted by their teachers as being the deserving inductees for the Spectacular Sixth-Grade Wall of Fame.
