HOUSTON—Police in southwest Houston are searching for a four-month-old girl who was allegedly abducted by her mother’s boyfriend.

The boyfriend has been identified as 32-year-old Byron Earl Gee, a convicted criminal.

According to the Houston Police Department, Gee took lStephanie Lavette Phillips around 4:30 a.m. An Amber Alert was issued shortly before 7 a.m.

Police said Gee took the baby from the Brays Oaks Apartments in the 6400 block of W. Bellfort, then ran across the street to another complex. Witnesses said he was running door-to-door, baby in hand, trying to get someone to open up. When no one would, he went after one woman who was on her way to work.

“He told her to help him, to take him somewhere, but she told him that she had to go to work,” said Daisy Gomez, the woman’s sister. “He told her not to answer the phone and not to call nobody and, like, he saw that she pushed the green button to answer, that’s when everything happened.”

Gee then stole the woman’s white 1999 Ford Expedition with license plate number DK3N645.

Gee is 5 feet 8 inches tall and was last seen wearing black pants, a black shirt and no shoes. According to records, he has been convicted of two felonies and three misdemeanors since 2001.
