Chamber thanks parade volunteers, promoters

Mother Nature granted Goliad a perfect weather day for the 2013 Goliad County Fair Parade on March 16 in downtown Goliad.

With a new route, new lineup and 45-plus entries, the parade kicked off at 10:30 a.m. without a hitch. The Grand Marshal this year was Louis Rodriguez, who was named the Anne Kohler Outstanding Citizen at the Annual Chamber Banquet last month.

The Mayor’s Trophy was awarded to the South Texas Wheel Spinners & Crank Twisters Antique Tractor Club.

The Judge’s Trophy was awarded to Cripple Creek Cattle Company.

The award for traveling the furthest to participate went to the South Texas Travelers who came from Raymondville.

First-Place commercial entry: It’s a Small World Nursery School

Second-place commercial entry: Dairy Queen

First-place chamber of commerce entries – Chisholm Trail Roundup Queen’s Court

Second-place chamber of commerce entries – Yoakum Chamber of Commerce.

First-place marching/mounted unit – La Bahia Trail Riders

Second-place marching/mounted unit – Bar IV Paint Horse Ranch

First-place noncommercial float - Presidio La Bahia Chapter –Daughters of the Republic of Texas

Second-place noncommercial float- Al Amin Shrine Temple of Corpus Christi

First-place best-decorated car/truck – Goliad Lions Club

Second-place best-decorated car/truck – South Texas Travelers

First-place youth organization – Miss Goliad and her Court

Second-place youth organization – Victoria Livestock Show Queens
