Over 35 searchers and two dog teams are currently involved in the search. Search efforts Friday are focused on Spruce Canyon, Navajo Canyon and Wickiup Canyon, according to a news release from the park.
National Park Service personnel are being assisted by Dog SAR Colorado. NPS personnel were assisted earlier in the week by Montezuma and La Plata County SAR teams, the Bureau of Indian Affairs, the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe and the San Juan National Forest Hot Shots.
Temperatures in the park are expected to be in the 80s Friday. The terrain consists of steep canyons and mesa tops at an elevation between 6,500 and 8,000 feet.
Stehling was last seen wearing a brown shirt and hat, khaki shorts and hiking boots. He was not carrying any water or other gear.
