He was born June 25, 1924 in Goliad County to Alfred G. and Sophie Mehnert Gruetzmacher.
A lifetime resident of Goliad, Bill served in World War II and was retired after working with heavy equipment in the construction business for many years.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ethel Wright Gruetzmacher; sister, Elorine Morris; and brother, Milton Gruetzmacher.
He is survived by his daughter, Carolyn Loest; son, Curtis L. (Luana) Gruetzmacher; a brother, Alton (Lou) Gruetzmacher; six grandchildren, Michael Loest, Tina (Stephen) Bryant, Darren (Susan) Gruetzmacher, Destry (Pam) Gruetzmacher, Jessica (Dan) Wise and Jennifer (Paul) Scotten; 12 great-grandchildren, Mathew, Nathan, Joshua, Kelsey, Amanda, Collin, Erin, Jonathon, Kyndal, Jordan, Douglas and Jack; and a great-great-grandchild, Jace.
Public visitation will begin Friday, Jan. 24 at 1 p.m. at Grace Funeral Home in Goliad. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Grace Chapel.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, Jan. 25 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Goliad with Pastors Randy Bruno, David Parks and Jay Fleming officiating.
Burial will follow in Glendale Cemetery in Goliad with military honors.
