On Jan. 23, Police arrived at the residence of Gaylynn Nicole Jones, 23, to find her 30-year-old husband crawling out of their Everett apartment with a cell phone in his hand. Smith was found dead inside from a gunshot wound.
According to the police report, the man, who has not been charged, called 9-1-1 and told dispatchers that Jones had stabbed him twice and was getting a shotgun. He said the shotgun went off when he was struggling with Jones.
“The case is under investigation,” Everett policeman Aaron Snell told the Everett Herald. “Any possible arrest will depend on what facts we uncover.”
Jones’ manner of death was ruled undetermined by the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office.
According to a search warrant filed last week in Everett District Court, police took items from the apartment in a search for potential evidence of second-degree murder.
Detectives wrote in the warrant that text messages between the couple “provided insight into their marital and personal issues.”
The couple's two young children, who were home when the shooting occurred, are in protective custody.
Jones graduated fro Goliad High School in 2009.
