GOLIAD – Goliad ISD is considering the development of a drug-testing program and policy for students who will be in grades 7-12 beginning with the 2014-15 school year.

Goliad ISD students involved with the potential drug-testing program would be those involved with extra-curricular activities, which include but are not limited to athletics, band, cheerleading, UIL academics, school organizations, etc., and for those students who park a vehicle at the school parking lot during the regular school day.

Two community/parent meetings are planned, one each for Tuesday, May 6 and Tuesday, May 13 at the Goliad High School Auditorium beginning at 6 p.m.

The purpose of the meetings is to seek parental and community input. Representatives from the Goliad ISD and a drug-testing company will be present to answer any and all concerns or questions.

Should the drug-testing program be implemented, Goliad ISD will develop a drug-testing policy which will be communicated to parents and students.

For further information or questions, contact Goliad ISD Superintendent Emilio Vargas III at 645-3259, ext. 101.
