GOLIAD – Following is a preview of the Class 2A boys 400-meter dash at Friday's and Saturday's UIL State Track and Field Championships at Austin's Mike A. Myers Stadium:


STARTING TIME: 7:45 p.m., Friday

FASTEST QUALIFYING TIME: 48.83 seconds by Buffalo's James Kolb

STATE RECORD: 45.19 by Mansfield Timberview's in 2012

CLASS 2A RECORD: 46.41 by Fred Hackney of Alto in 1996

PREVIEW: Zamzow makes his state meet debut as the ninth-fastest qualifier with a time of 51.69. Kolb is the only sub-49 qualifier. The other entrants are Crane's Austin Sandoval (49.12), Sunnyvale's Josh Quinn (49.18), Stanton's Jonathan Tomlinson (49.48), Sanford-Fritch's Andrew Reynolds (49.62), Commerce's Dlance Sharp (49.68), Karnes City's Paul Kinney (50.04) and Warren's Cody Hammonds (50.07). Quinn was third at last year's meet in 49.65. Reynolds (50.66) was fifth and Hammonds (52.20) was ninth.

SYNOPSIS: Zamzow, who will run in Lane 4, will need to run a sub-50 to have a chance to medal.
