Goliad County Sheriff's Office deputies were dispatched to the location at 5:04 a.m. after a nearby resident found the body.
Sheriff Kirby Brumby said investigators were not ruling out homicide as the cause of the man's death.
"He possibly could have stumbled and hit his head," Brumby said. "He had a head wound. It looked like he was trying to crawl to some chairs."
Brumby said an autopsy was to be performed Friday.
The GCSO would not release the man's name until relatives had been notified.
