GOLIAD – Goliad cross country coach Ed Ousley welcomes back his entire varsity girls team that won a district title in 2013, but is still seeking runners to complete the boys varsity squad.

Goliad returns all its runners from last year’s district champion girls team – Marla Reyna, Danielle Garza, Andrea DeLaGarza, Bryanna Mendoza, Michala Janssen and Denise Jones.

“We missed making it to state by just one place last year,” Ousley said. “We’re looking for big things again from them.”

Goliad will compete against new district foes Bloomington, Karnes City, Luling, Nixon-Smiley, Poth and Stockdale in 27-3A. Luling is the defending state champion in boys cross country.

“They changed the district around some, but we ought to be in the thick of it,” Ousley said.

Nick Westfall and Rhett Davis are the only returners from last year’s boys team. Tino Reyes joins the varsity this year.

“I don’t have a full boys team yet,” Ousley said. “I’m still looking for people. I have some open slots.”
