Mr. Alvarado was born July 2, 1930, in Pawnee to Agapita (Garcia) and Gerardo Alvarado Sr. He was a retired supervisor for Red Ewald and a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Gerardo Alvarado III; a sister; and four brothers.
Survivors include his wife, Olga Salas; two daughters, Rose Marie Leija of Garden City, Kan., and Laura Salas of Kenedy; five sons, Alonzo Alvarado of Garden City, Kan., Leo Alvarado of Beeville, Alan Alvarado of Kenedy, Saul Salas of Victoria, Gerardo “Gito” Salas of Dallas; two sisters, Esmerencia Escamilla of Pawnee and Elena Vosque of Corpus Christi; one brother, Benito Alvarado of Beeville; 16 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. at Eckols Funeral Home chapel in Kenedy.
The funeral service was conducted at 10 o’clock Tuesday morning at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church with the Rev. Norbert Herman officiating. Burial followed at De Ntra Sra De Guadalupe Cemetery in Pawnee.
