The Lions dropped 2 games in week three of district play to put themselves in a tie for 2nd place with Port Aransas. In the first game of the week the Lions traveled to Woodsboro to play the Eagles. The Eagles came in 3-1 before the game and ended up defeating the Lions 11-2 and put both teams in a tie for first at 4-1 in district. The game opened up as the Eagles scored 1 run in the first two innings off starter Jason Medina. The Lions would tie it in the top of the third at 2-2 as Eddie Villarreal and Rolie Zepeda would both score. The Eagles would get one in the bottom of the third to take the lead back and then in the fourth they would load the bases off of Medina. Isaac Cruz would come in relief down 7-2 and give up 4 runs in his 2 innings of work. Rhett Bell would come in to close out the last inning shutting down the Eagles.
In the second game of the week the Lions hosted the Port Aransas Marlins in the beginning of the second round of district. Rolie Zepeda would get the start. Zepeda would give up 2 runs in the first and 1 in the fourth before giving way to Cruz. Cruz would give up 3 in the top of the fifth to put the Marlins up 6-0. The Lions in the bottom of the fifth scored two as Zepeda and Gaskamp would cross the plate. In the sixth the Lions would cut the lead in half as J D. De Los Santos scored to make it 6-3. Port A would add one more run in the seventh to make it 7-3 and this is where it would finish. The Lions left 12 runners stranded in the game as they couldn’t come up with the big hit. With the loss the Lions now are 4-2 in district play and tied for second with Port A.
