Robert Ray Salge, age 86, of Karnes City, TX died Sunday May 8, 2011. He was born Dec. 26, 1924 in Coy City, TX to Robert William “Bob” Salge and Effie Roberts Salge. Ray served his country in the Army during WW II. He later married Dorothy Lee Edwards in Beeville, TX on July 13, 1946. He worked in the oilfield as a Driller and Tool Pusher his entire life. He drilled the first offshore oil well near Lake St. Claire in Ontario, Canada. He lived and worked throughout South Texas, Canada, and Louisiana before moving back to Karnes City in 1961. He is survived by his daughter Linda Kay Dziuk and husband Larry J. of Houston, TX; son James Ray Salge and wife Patti of Karnes City; brothers Carlton James “Nook” Salge and wife Alice of Karnes City, and Harroll “Cotton” Salge and wife Charlene of Lockhart, TX; sister Gwendolyn “Chico” Rigby and husband Jerry of Florida; grandchildren Brett Dziuk, and Samantha and Wes Porter; and his special furry friend, Turd. Ray is preceded in death by his parents; wife; special friend Lillian Zimmerman; brother Woody Salge; and sister Lillian Needham. Funeral services were held 10 AM, Saturday, May 14, 2011 at Rhodes Funeral Home in Karnes City. Interment followed in the Karnes City Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were: Wes Porter, Brett Dzuik, Coley Salge, Hunter Salge, Cliff Salge and Phillip Salge.
