While summer might seem like a time for sitting around and being bored, a group of Kenedy students participated in the first full week of the Kenedy Summer Recreation Program’s free activities. Girls in grades 3-8 were coached in basketball by Niki Fudge, a former Kenedy athlete and coach. The basketball camp which is one of many camps being offered this summer focused on fundamentals and sportsmanship. Other activities already in session are Track and Field coached by Manuel De La Garza and Girl’s Softball coached by Rudy Diaz.

Athletic camps can be very expensive to attend, but Kenedy is offering numerous camps this summer to young athletes in grades 3-12. This recreation program is available to students who attend Kenedy ISD or whose parents pay taxes within the school district. It is sponsored by the City of Kenedy and 4-B Corporation and is an excellent opportunity for kids to obtain quality coaching at no expense. While the program in not set up to provide transportation at this time, kids can learn new skills and stay active during the long summer months. If you have questions about the program, you may contact the City of Kenedy at 583-2230, Larry Kiesling at 583-2342, or Manual DelaGarza at 583-4387.
