Mary Ella Retzloff Henke passed to be with our Lord on June 6, 2011 at 89 years of age. She was born on December 27, 1921 to Herman and Rose Retzloff in Lenz, Texas. The ninth of ten children, she was surrounded by lots of love and hard work

She married Alfons Henke on January 14, 1940. Alfons was from a family of ten children in Fashing, Texas. They raised their family in faith and love. They taught their family to work hard and play hard and always be thankful to God for the blessings of life.

She is survived by her children: Mary Rose Geiger and husband Fred of Salado, TX, Clarence Henke and wife Rhonda of Fashing, TX, Helen Hillert and husband Conrad of Cibolo, TX, and Patti Smith and husband Gene of Pipe Creek, TX.

She is also survived by ten grandchildren: Steve Geiger (Susan), Kathryn Geiger Moreland (Brian), Laura Krupicka, Shannon Tamayo (Juan), Gwen Hesseltine (Robert), Christopher Tarrillion (Heidi), Matthew Tarrillion, Jonathan Tarrillion (Heather), Tiffany Hillert, and Bradley Floyd (Kristina).

Surviving great grandchildren are Sarah Geiger, Nicholas Linton, Patrick Linton, Joseph Moreland, Christian Tamayo, Julianna Tamayo, Meredith Hesseltine, Mollie Hesseltine, Robert Hesseltine Jr., Kyle Tarrillion, Jacob Tarrillion, Olivia Floyd, and Katherine Floyd. She is also survived by one great great grandchild: Tyler Elliott.

One brother Herman Retzloff, Jr. and many nieces, nephews, and special friends also survive her. Her husband, Alfons preceded her in death and awaited her arrival with her parents Herman and Rose Retzloff, her siblings, Mary Esse, Otto Retzloff, Ed Retzloff, Alice Erler, Lollie Rutherford, Hugo Retzloff, Ollie Rosenbrock, Bill Retzloff, Rica Schneider, and Adolph Scheutzenberg and numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews.

She was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Campbellton, TX and laundered the altar cloths until three weeks prior to her death.

Whether you knew her as Mom, Granny, Aunt Nuddie, or “The Egg Lady”, you will always have special memories of her. She was blessed to live at home until her strokes on May 28th and 30th.

A Rosary was recited at 7 PM, Thursday, June 9, 2011 at Rhodes Funeral Home Chapel in Karnes City. A Mass was celebrated Friday, June 10, 2011 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Campbellton. Interment was in the Fashing Cemetery.
