Melvin Alfred Hosek, age 73, of Karnes City, TX, died July 27, 2011. He was born September 21, 1927 in Floresville, TX to Charles Hosek and Annie Supak Hosek. Melvin was a retired Truck Driver; and was a member of a poker group, and the morning coffee group, he loved gambling in Louisiana and fishing with his family and he was also famous for growing tomatoes. He is survived by his brothers; Charlie and William Hosek both of San Antonio, TX, Edward Hosek of Floresville, TX, and Eugene Hosek of West, TX; sisters; Bessie Green of New Braunfels, TX, Adela Krebs of Marion, TX and Mary Rose Pell of Natalia, TX and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother Lee Hosek; and sister Lilly Magel. A rosary was recited 7 PM, Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at Rhodes Funeral Home in Karnes City. A Funeral Service was held at 10 AM, Thursday, August 4, 2011 at Rhodes Funeral Home. Interment followed in the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Cemetery in Poth, TX. Serving as pallbearers were Carl Hosek, Larry Krebs, Rodney Krebs, Harold Franke, John Vrzalik, and John Green. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorials be made to the Three Oaks Volunteer Fire Dept. Funeral services were entrusted to Rhodes Funeral Home of Karnes City, 830-780-3334.
