Local members of Tocallos Boxing participated in the 2011 TAAF Summer Games of Texas in Waco, Texas between July 28 and July 31.

The Tournament is sponsored every year by the Texas Amateur Athlete Federation. Athletes compete in boxing, swimming, golf, track and field events and table tennis.

Jacob Coffman and Chris Tobar were returning state champions and both held onto their title to become the 2011 champions.

Boxers Justin Coffman, Johnathon Coffman and Damien Hernandez each brought home silver medals.

“I thank God for allowing me to live a dream.” said Coach Domingo Tobar. “I feel like the richest man on Earth to be able to work with these kids. I just want to thank my family, friends and everyone who believe in keeping our kids first in our lives. It our job to keep kids off the street, encourage them to get good grades and to build character. These kids are the future of this great country we live in.”

Everyone involved with the organization participated in fundraisers to offset the cost of gas, food, housing cost and other expenses associated with this contest.

These young boxers, the coaches and their parents would like to thank Looney’s, Veolia and the businesses around Karnes City that made donations and everyone that purchased baked goods and BBQ plates during their fundraiser .

“I believe that one person can make a difference in the lives of these boys,” Tobar said.

Members of Tocallos Boxing will be raising funds and seeking donations and sponsors for upcoming trips to Houston and Kansas City as well as next year’s tournaments.

Anyone who is interested in supporting these young men in future tournaments is welcome to send emails to
