The JV Badger Football team looks forward to a week off but going into their district opener next week confident, after defeating Navarro 30-8 Thursday.

Coach Sean Armstrong noted that it was a full team effort.

“A lot of kids played a lot,” he said.

Sophomore Mauricio Blanco topped all scorers with a pair of touchdowns and a two-point conversion, while Sophomore Mac Pogue broke loose for 40 yards and a TD. Sophomore Steven Gamboa added another touchdown off a pass from Freshman Quarterback Dylan Wright.

“It was a breath-taking, victorious win,” Wright said.

The defense caused three turnovers for the Panther freshman team – two interceptions and a fumble. Armstrong said the outside and inside linebackers played well.

Freshman Jacob Janysek stepped up in the absence of injured Sophomore Cody Martinez, playing tight end.

“It was a hard-fought game, and we came out on top,” Janysek said.

The JV Badgers’ next game is against Stockdale at 6 p.m. Oct. 6 there.
