Lady Badgers improve to 7-2 in district play

The Lady Badger Volleyball team improved to 7-2 in district action, defeating Three Rivers Friday night and easily winning against Cotulla last Tuesday.

They faced Jourdanton Tuesday and stats will be in next week’s edition.

The Three Rivers match Oct. 7 was close and went to five games, but the Lady Badgers came out on top with scores of 25-17, 20-25, 25-19, 17-25 and 15-12. Senior Sarah Barkley recorded 14 kills, 10 blocks, seven digs and four aces, while Junior Kalli Ferguson chipped in nine kills, a block and four aces. Junior Courtney Pieprzyca added nine kills as well along with three digs, a block and three aces. Junior Jonie Reyes had 28 digs, an ace and one kill. Sophomore Kayla Ramirez led in digs with 30 and added four aces. Junior Aileen Lundquist had 24 assists, 20 digs and four aces, while Senior Korie Rodriguez added another 14 assists, four kills, 10 digs, three aces and a block.

On Oct. 4, Karnes City easily beat Cotulla 25-23, 25-14 and 25-9. Barkley had 13 kills, five blocks and four aces. Junior Lani Pitts knocked out 12 kills and four blocks. Ferguson had six kills, three blocks, six digs and an ace, while Lundquist led in assists at 28 and had 14 dig and three aces. Pieprzyca tallied six kills, a pair of blocks and three digs. Reyes had 20 digs and two kills. Ramirez had 17 digs, a kill and one ace. Junior Dora Bazan chipped in 15 digs.
