Freshman Paul Kinney scored three touchdowns and Sophomore Mauricio Blanco, who led in rushing, chipped in another to pace the offense, but defense also shined, Coach Sean Armstrong said.
“The defense played hard and dominated the Stockdale offense,” he said. “Paul Kinney played well on offense and defense. (Sophomore) Mac Pogue ran the ball well and caught a few passes as well. The offense did not turn the ball over and we had only a few penalties called against us.”
Kinney started off the scoring with a 44-yard reception from Blanco. Freshman Kolton Witte connected with Sophomore Steven Gamboa for the two-point conversion.
The Badgers decided to try an onside kick, and Sophomore Darrin Reyes recovered it, setting up the next scoring drive. Blanco ran for the TD on a 48-yard run.
The Badgers led at half 14-0.
Kinney scored again in the second half, breaking free on an 18-yard run.
Freshman Elias Estrada sealed the game with an interception which led to the Badgers’ last touchdown, a 5-yard run by Kinney, in the fourth quarter.
Coach Armstrong also noted that Witte had four completed passes to Pogue and Freshman Chris Brambilla to help the offensive effort.
