KC cross country athletes place at Poth practice meet

The Karnes City Cross Country teams saw how they might stack up against many of their district competitors during Saturday’s practice meet in Poth.

District is Oct. 26 in Dilley, but at Poth’s meet this past weekend, the competition included Poth, Three Rivers, George West, Jourdanton, Stockdale and Dilley – all teams they’ll face at district.

The varsity girls won 5th place team, led by Freshmen Kristina Sauceda’s 5th place finish and Clara Gotthardt’s 12th place finish. Junior Courtney Garcez came in 23rd. Freshman Desiree Ramirez finished 35th, and her sister Senior Darian Ramirez placed 40th. Seniors Kim Lara was 43rd and Tara Torres 49th.

The Varsity Boys won 3rd place team, led by Senior Miguel Perales’s 11th place, followed by Sophomore Chris Toabr’s 18th place and Sophomore Jeremy Cononado’s 22nd place. Freshmen Robert Morin placed 23rd and Angel May was 27th. Sophomore Ari Lopez came in 38th.

On the JV end, the girls won 2nd place team. Freshmen Seande Goodhue finished 6th, Madie Walter 7th and Savannah Dobson 11th. Junior Hailey Johnson placed 15th and Senior Stephanie Moya trailed close behind at 16th and Freshman Jade Gonzales fell in at 17th. As for JV boys, Freshman Randy Flores finished 11th, followed by Junior Rodney Foreman at 14th and Jesus Moncada at 20th.

Eighth-grader Jordan Garcez led the Karnes City Junior High runners with her 2nd place finish, followed by Adriana Serna’s 11th place, Emily Valdez’s 24th place and Dee’ Sha Shular’s 27th place. Seventh-grader Kyler Palmer led the Karnes City Junior High boys with his 6th place finish, followed by Nick Casanova’s 28th place, Andres Moncada’s 40th place and Chris Shular’s 41st place.
