Regardless of Tuesday’s outcome against George West, the Lady Badger volleyball team has clinched a playoff opportunity.

Playoffs begin next Tuesday, Nov. 1, but the time and date were not yet determined. That depended on last night’s game against George West as the Lady Longhorns and the Lady Badgers played for the district’s second place spot behind Poth. Because of deadlines, results will be in next week’s paper.

The Lady Badgers easily defeated Dilley 25-5, 25-10 and 25-7 Friday night to guarantee them the playoff berth – the second trip to playoffs in team history.

Junior Kalli Ferguson knocked out 11 kills, four blocks, four digs and two aces, while Senior Sarah Barkley had 10 kills, six blocks, three digs and four aces. Junior Courtney Pieprzyca chipped in six kills and a pair of blocks, Junior Lani Pitts also had six kills and four blocks. Junior Aileen Lundquist recorded 26 assists, three kills, nine digs and five aces, while Senior Korie Rodriguez added 17 assists, five kills and four digs. Junior Jonie Reyes had 15 digs and three kills, Sophomore Kayla Ramirez had 10 digs, one kill and a couple of aces, Junior Dora Bazan chipped in 10 dig and Senior Maria Moncada had five digs and an ace. Coming off of an injury, Senior Destinee Villanueva contributed three digs. Playing with the varsity, Sophomore Lauren Kelley added four digs, and her sister Freshman Morgan Kelley added two kills and a block.

On Oct. 18, the varsity girls easily defeated Natalia. KC won 25-15, 25-12 and 25-8. Barkley had 13 kills, five blocks and six aces. Pitts got 10 kill and five blocks. Pierprzyca tallied nine kills, two blocks and three aces. Lundquist contributed 27 assists, 15 digs and four aces, and Ramirez added 19 digs, two kills and three aces.

The Junior Varsity remained in second place in their district standings. They did not face an opponent last Friday, but on Oct. 18 beat Natalia JV in two games, 25-12 and 25-20.
