Badger Band Director George DeRocher could hardly contain his enthusiasm as he read the judge’s comments following Oct. 15’s Regional Marching Contest.
“We received many compliments from area band directors due to the dedication of the Band,” Mr. DeRocher said. “I am very pleased with the growth of the Band and very pleased with the performance of the Band. Go Badgers!”
The Badger Band received an Excellent Rating with a I and two II’s from the three-judge panel for their marching performance of “Saturday Night Dance” during the annual Region 12-3A and Below Marching Contest at East Central High School’s stadium.
Judge Charles Munsell rated the group the I and made the “Wow!” comments. Judge David Edge gave the group a II but was positive.
“A lot of good things are happening in the music and marching too,” he said. “Refine techniques for everyone to be uniform in both.”
The Band performed the music of Credence Clearwater Revival’s “Proud Mary,” Foghat’s “Slow Ride,” Van Morrison’s “Brown-Eyed Girl” and Roy Orbison’s “Blue Bayou.”
“Good drills – works well with the music. Good use of Color Guard,” another judge, Fred Klaerner, who rated the Band a II, said. “Fundamentals not fully developed.”
The Band received a I, II and III in fall 2010 and a IV overall rating in fall 2009. Since Aug. 1, the 2011-12 Band and Color Guard have worked to fine-tune their routine, and brought their show to the crowds at football halftimes.
“After working with these kids through their junior high years, it was thrilling to see them get a taste of success,” Assistant Band Director Nathan Jones said. “I’m very excited for what the future holds if the program continues to progress this way.”
