NSEF is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit charitable organization created for the benefit of the school district and will provide funding not allocated by tax dollars. The sole purpose of the NSEF is to benefit the Nixon-Smiley CISD by providing funds for educational programs and activities, which are not funded by the normal operating budget. These funds will be used to facilitate student achievement and skill development, to recognize and encourage staff excellence and to expand community involvement from individuals, businesses and civic organizations. Funding priorities will also include funds for innovative teaching grants that will provide resources directly to the classroom for teachers to implement exciting new educational programs.
“The Education Foundation is another creative way to enhance educational programs in our district without raising taxes,” states Donnie Janicek, NSEF Board President. “Our collective mission is to generate and distribute resources exclusively to our school district for the implementation of innovative programs and continued momentum towards excellence. The teachers and employees will have an avenue of funding that is not currently available to them.”
A large and diverse group of individuals serve on the Education Foundation Board of Directors, representing areas of community, corporate, parental and educational opinions. Backgrounds rooted in our community as well as those new to the area and alumni are also included in this dedicated group of volunteers. “We are fortunate to have this group of highly motivated and dedicated individuals giving of their time and efforts to our district,” explained Dr. Cathy Booth, Superintendent of Schools.
Please join the NSEF as they host their 1st Annual Kick-off event in conjunction with the grand opening of the new high school library on November 16, 2011 at 6:30 pm. To initialize the actual annual drive, NSEF is inviting all those wanting more information about the Education Foundation or those interested in learning how to support the innovative efforts of NSCISD to attend.
