The Lady Badgers solidly won their first three games of the tournament on Thursday, but then fell in the fourth match against Austin Regents, keeping them from the championship round and making them settle for third.
In the first game, Karnes City dominated Cuero’s JV 57-14. Lundquist led all Lady Badger scorers with 14 points, while Juniors Lani Pitts and Courtney Piepryzca chipped in eight apiece, Ferguson added another seven and Sophomore Katy Gotthardt put in six.
In the next matchup, the Lady Badgers faced Sacred Heart and won 54-23.Lundquist once again was high-point scorer with 10, two of which were three-pointers. Freshman Morgan Kelley followed close behind with nine, Piepryzca added another seven, and Pitts and Junior Jonie Reyes scored six each. Ferguson added another five, including a three-pointer.
In the third game, Karnes City played Weimer and defeated them 57-37. Once again, Lundquist led the scoring effort with 14 points, one being a three-pointer. Pitts and Piepryzca each added eight, Ferguson seven and Gotthardt six. Senior Brianna Hopkins also had a three-pointer.
In the fourth game of the tournament, the Lady Badgers met their match with Austin Regents, who edged them out 50-48. None of the Lady Badgers got into double-digits, as Lundquist was high-point girl with nine. Sophomore Kayla Ramirez followed with seven, five of which were on free throws. Ferguson had six, and Juniors Khadeshia Hopkins, Piepryzca and Reyes, along with M. Kelley hit five each.
Playing for third against hosts Faith Academy, the Lady Badgers bounced back and won 60-28. Ferguson led all scorers with 12, followed by Lundquist at 11, M. Kelley at nine, Reyes at eight and Piepryzca at six.
Earlier in the week on Nov. 15, the Lady Badgers traveled to Refugio and lost a close game 32-28. The Lady Bobcats held the girls to single digits in scoring, with Ramirez as high-point girl with eight, Lundquist with six and M. Kelley with four.
In JV action, the Lady Badgers defeated Refugio 29-23 on Nov. 15 with Sophomores Lauren Kelley and Katelyn Witte leading the scoring effort with eight points apiece. Following in scoring was Sophomore Jurnee Jaramillo with six.
The JV also beat Falls City on Nov. 11, 42-30. Witte dominated scoring with 16 points, including a pair of three-pointers. L. Kelley chipped in eight, and Sophomore Mariah Villarreal added another six.
In their season opener, the JV Lady Badger Basketball team blasted Luling 49-8.Freshman JuliAnn Chesser led all scorers with 10, while Jaramillo and Freshman Callie Neiswender scored eight apiece, and Villarreal contributed another seven.
The Lady Badger Basketball teams traveled to Moulton Tuesday night and results will be in next week’s paper. Their next home game is this Friday, Nov. 29, against Cuero, beginning with JV at 5 p.m. and varsity about 6:30 p.m.
