Students at Kenedy Middle School celebrated Veterans’ Day with a special program to honor men and women who served and are serving in the military. The event was held on Friday, Nov. 11, veterans and family members joined students. A Color Guard presented the flags and James Cooksey and Gabriella Albiar led the pledges to the American and Texas flags. School principal, Randy Tiemann welcomed the guests and expressed the importance of the ceremony. The Kenedy Middle School band was joined by the high school band and played the National Anthem followed by a short film about Veterans’ Day. Lillie Cantu read the History of Veterans‘ Day, and Jo Rahmes read Barrack Obama’s Proclamation for Veterans’ Day. Mrs. Peggy Mauch and Mrs. Kathleen Nichols sang a duet that has become a school tradition. Mrs. Jan Jendrzey, who organized the event, introduced the veterans who were in attendance and each told the students a little of their background. Andrea Albiar read an essay about the United States’ participation in each of the wars. Gailynn Morales, Jakob Janssen, Kerry Schmidt, Corina Hallmark, and Gabriel Tafolla explained the function of each branch of the service. After the program, the guests were served refreshments and had a chance to visit with some of the students, school faculty and school board members who were present.
Kenedy Middle School would like to thank all those that attended the Veterans’ Day program and helped make it such a huge success. Thank you to Mr. Brad Lane, our school superintendent, and the members of our school board who were part of the special day. And, thank you again to the men and women who have served and are serving our country. Your presence at our school was an inspiration to the students. You are all truly heroes!
