KC Powerlifters excel at Powerfest meet

In their first meet of the 2012 season, the Lady Badger Powerlifting team won 3rd overall and two seniors took 1st in their weight classes at UTSA’s Roadrunner High School Powerfest last Saturday.

Senior Darian Ramirez placed 1st in the 123-pound weight division, lifting 205 in the squats, 95 in the bench press, 245 in the dead lift for a total of 545 pounds. Senior Tatiana Tinoco also won 1st in the 220+ weight class, lifting a total of 755 pounds. She tallied 315 in squats, 150 in bench and 290 in her dead lift.

Placing 2nd were Seniors Brianna Hopkins in the 148-pound weight division and Maria Moncada in the 165 weight class. Freshman Caley Jackson, competing in the 148-pound division, and Junior Roxanne Carrasco, classified in the 165-pound division placed 5th.

Freshman Ashlin Liska placed 10th in the 132-pound division; Junior Khadeshia Hopkins got 9th in the 148-pound division; and Freshman Marisella Alaniz was 10th also in the 148-pound division.

Seventy-five girls competed in the Jan. 7 meet. JV teams travel Jan. 19 to Southside High School, and the varsity will return to competition Jan. 27-28 in Three Rivers.

As of press time, boys results had not been posted on the Texas High School Powerlifting Association website, but Coach Bobby Perez said Senior John Mendoza won first in his division, Junior Weston Block also took first in his weight class, Junior Austin Block followed with 2nd; Senior Robert Duenes was 5th, Junior Lucas Janysek also won 5th; and Freshmen Wesley Lover was 1st and Robert Morin 2nd in their weight divisions.
