Kenedy Lions beat Woodsboro, 55-44

The Kenedy Lions got their first district win of the season with a 55-44 victory over the Woodsboro Eagles.

The game was tied at 9-9 at the end of the first quarter.

In the 2nd quarter, the Kenedy Lions went on a 21-11 run to take a 30-20 lead going into half time.

The Woodsboro Eagles cut the lead down to seven at the end of the 3rd quarter.

The lead got down to 1 in the 4th quarter, until the Lions went on a 10-0 run to end the game.

The Lions were paced by Deon Maryberry with 16 pts, 13 rebounds, 4 steals and 5 assist.

Emilio Mendoza added 13 pts, 6 rebounds 4 steals, and 3 assist.

Freshman point guard Dominic Cruz kept the offense going with 12 pts, 4 steals, and 5 assist.

“This was a complete team effort,” Coach Jerry Connell said. Reed Bell chipped in 5 pts, Charlie Lobner had 5 pts, and Kris Bryan had 2.

The Kenedy Lions visited the McMullen County Cowboys on Jan. 17.

The Lions lost to the Cowboys 50-38.

The Lions were outscored 14-2 in the first quarter.

Led by Jeremy Rodriguez, 12 pts 5 rebounds, and 4 steals, the Lions attempted a valiant comeback in the second half.

The Lions outscored the Cowboys 15-13 in the 3rd, and 10-6 in the 4th.

Dominic Cruz chipped in 9 pts 5 rebounds, Charlie Lobner had 6 pts and 8 rebounds.

“This season has been a great learning experience for a young team,” said Coach Jerry Connell. “The freshmen and have gained a lot of valuable court time this year.”
