Yellow Jackets defeated by Nordheim, 44-36

The Runge Yellow Jackets travelled to Nordheim last Friday in an important 1A District 30 matchup.

The Yellow Jackets stormed out of the gates and quickly led 6-0.

The first quarter ended with the visiting Yellow Jackets leading 15-8 but the Pirates then took control of the game and outscored he Yellow Jackets 16-3 in the 2nd quarter to take a 24-18 lead into the half.

Runge chipped away at the lead and trailed 35-33 to begin the 4th and deciding quarter.

Nothing went right from that point on for the Yellow Jackets as they could only manage 3 points in the quarter and fell short in the end 44-36.

The loss drops the Yellow Jackets to 9-12 on the season but more importantly 0-3 in district play.

Richard Ramirez led the Yellow Jackets in scoring with 10 points. He also pulled down 15 rebounds.

“We didn’t shoot well at all,” Coach Ken Wallace stated, “Our shot selection must improve if we are going to get this turned around.”

The team shot a combined 28% from the field.

“Corey (Douglas) and Richard shot well but as a team we need to get better,” Wallace added.

Ramirez and Douglas combined to shoot 8 of 15 (53%) but the rest of the team shot a dismal 8 of 42 for 19%.
