The Runge Yellow Jackets pulled out a huge victory Tuesday night when they beat the visiting Austwell-Tivoli Redfish 61-59.

Travis Perez led the Yellow Jackets with 19 points followed by 16 points from Senior Captain AJ Mejia.

Corey Douglas ruled the paint and chipped in 14 points and pulled down 10 rebounds.

Richard Ramirez scored 9 points for Runge and also hauled in 10 rebounds.

The Redfish had possession of the ball with 5 seconds left in the game and had two good looks at the basket but Ramirez blocked the first attempt by Redfish guard Garrett Duenez then Douglas swatted away the follow up shot to secure the win for the Yellow Jackets.

The win lifts the Yellow Jackets record to 11-13 overall and 2-4 in district.

The Yellow Jackets need to win 3 of their next 4 games to qualify for the playoffs.

“We control our own destiny as it stands right now,” said Runge head coach Ken Wallace, “We need to play with this same intensity in all of our remaining games to get us to where we want to be.”

The Yellow Jackets will travel to Moulton on Friday then return home to play their final 3 games.
