E.C. “Chunky” Payne, 93, of Choate, died February 11, 2012 in San Antonio.

He was born April 15, 1918 in Choate to Wiley Payne and Nancy Ellen (Yeater) Payne. He married Lottie (Moses) Payne on Nov. 10, 1951 in Mexico. He was retired from CPL after 35 years as a service man. He was a member of Choate Baptist Church. Mr. Payne was a Navy veteran of WWII and loved playing baseball and softball.

Survivors include wife, Lottie (Moses) Payne of Choate; daughters, Mary Lee Taylor of Sante Fe, Tx and Jackie Rutledge of Choate; son, Wiley (Debbie) Payne of Portland; 11 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Preceded in death by father, Wiley Payne; mother, Nancy Ellen (Yeater) Payne; son, Robert Elvin Payne; brothers, Alvin Payne, Delbert Payne, Ollie Payne, Albert Payne and sister, Lucy Mary Wagner.

Visitation was held Sunday, Feb. 12 at 4 p.m. at Eckols Chapel. Funeral service were held Monday, Feb. 13, 2012 at 10 a.m. in Eckols Chapel with Rev. Larry Odom officiating. Burial followed at the Choate Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Philip Bush, Tommy Jimerson, Ty Moses, Ty Moses, II, Amos Moses and Matt Seitzer.
