Coming back from a deficit in the 5th inning, the Badger Baseball team nearly pulled off an upset at the Nixon-Smiley Invitational Tournament last weekend, but they had to settle for 2nd instead.

The boys lost 19-15 to San Antonio Homeschool in the championship game, somewhat redeeming themselves from an earlier loss to the team.

“The Badgers battled back throughout the game, at one point cutting the lead from 9 to 1 in the 5th inning,” Coach Cody Fields said. “But defensive miscues were too much to handle.”

The boys beat Somerset’s JV 9-8 in the first round of games, lost to San Antonio Homeschool 14-4, and then beat Nixon 22-3 to earn a rematch with Homeschool in the championship on Saturday.

Senior Cody Salas and Junior Philip Vaughan were selected as all-tournament choices.

“Our team has definitely improved game-by-game,” Salas said Monday. “By pushing our personal limits hopefully we can pull together as a team and have a great district season.”

The Badgers overall record was 4-6 entering district play on Monday.  Results against Poth will be in next week’s edition.
