Alex J. Wiatrek, 84, of Hobson, died Mar. 16, 2012 in Floresville, Texas.

He was born Jan. 7, 1928 in Stockdale to Louis and Hedwig Wiatrek. Alex served his country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He and his wife Rosie were married on Oct. 23, 1951 in Panna Maria. Alex retired after many years as owner/operator of Wiatrek’s TV and Radio Repair; he also was a farmer and rancher. He was a former member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, Kenedy, a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Panna Maria; and he was a member of the St. Hedwig council of the Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include his daughter, Geralyn Labus and her husband Mark of Hobson; grandson, Sammy Labus of Hobson; brother, Frank Wiatrek and wife Ann; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Rosie; and an infant son, Alvin James Wiatrek.

A rosary was recited at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Mar. 20, 2012 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Panna Maria, with a funeral Mass at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Mar. 21, 2012 at the church. Interment followed with military honors in the Panna Maria Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Adrian Opiela Jr., Gary Hosek, Gerry Pruski, Allen Pruski, Darren Wiatrek, and Benedict Wiatrek. Funeral services were entrusted to Rhodes Funeral Home of Karnes City.
